Quick answer

Salazar Roadside Assistance inspects tires at your location anywhere in Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex and Austin. We measure tread depth at three points across each tire, read the DOT date code to find the tire's real age, check sidewalls for bulges and cracking, verify pressures and inspect the spare. You get a plain-language report on which tires are fine and which need replacing.

Tread depth is only part of the story

The penny test tells you when a tire is legally finished, not when it stopped being safe. Wet-weather braking falls off sharply below 4/32 inch, long before the 2/32 legal minimum. We measure inner, center and outer on each tire so uneven wear shows up as a number rather than a guess.

We also read the four-digit DOT date code on the sidewall. A tire made in 2016 with full tread is still a tire that has been baking in Texas sun for a decade, and rubber ages whether it is driven or not.

  • Tread depth measured inner, center and outer on all four
  • DOT date codes read and age reported per tire
  • Sidewall bulges, cuts and weather cracking documented
  • Uneven wear patterns matched to the likely alignment cause
  • Spare tire condition, pressure and age checked

Before a road trip

Summer heat plus loaded luggage plus 80 mph on I-20 is exactly the combination that finds a weak tire. A twenty-minute inspection in the driveway is cheaper than a blowout in Abilene and considerably cheaper than the wheel and fender that come with it.

Before you buy a used car

Mismatched brands, four different date codes, or a set of premium tires with feathered wear all tell you something about how the car was maintained. We inspect at the seller's location and you get the facts before you sign.

How the call works

  1. 1Tell us the vehicle, the location and why you want the inspection.
  2. 2The technician measures tread, reads date codes and checks sidewalls.
  3. 3Pressures are corrected to the placard and the spare is checked.
  4. 4You get a per-tire report with a clear replace or keep verdict.

Answers

Mobile Tire Inspection questions, answered

When should a tire be replaced by age?

Most manufacturers say six years from the date code and a hard stop at ten, regardless of tread. Texas heat is the harshest condition rubber sees, so we treat six years as the point to start planning.

How do I read the DOT date code?

The last four digits of the DOT string on the sidewall: the first two are the week, the last two are the year. '2419' means the 24th week of 2019.

Can you inspect tires on a car I am about to buy?

Yes. We meet you at the seller's location and inspect all five tires. It is a common request on private-party sales across DFW.

What tread depth is unsafe?

Legally 2/32 inch. Practically, wet braking degrades badly under 4/32, and we will tell you honestly when a tire is at that point rather than waiting for the wear bars.
