Why the light came on
Tires lose roughly one psi a month on their own, and about one psi for every ten degrees the temperature drops. That is why half of DFW gets a low-pressure warning on the first cold morning in November with nothing actually wrong.
The other half have a nail, a corroded bead or a cracked valve stem. The only way to know which you are is to have someone measure all four and look at where the air is going.

The placard, not the sidewall
The number moulded into the tire's sidewall is the maximum the tire can hold, not the pressure your car wants. The correct figure is on the sticker inside the driver's door. Running at the sidewall maximum wears the center of the tread out and rides badly; running low wrecks the shoulders and destroys fuel economy.
When the light stays on
If pressures are correct and the warning stays lit, the fault is in the TPMS system — usually a dead sensor battery after seven to ten years, or a sensor damaged during a previous tire change. That is a sensor service, not an inflation problem.

What pressure should my tires be at?
Whatever the sticker inside the driver's door says — typically 32 to 36 psi for passenger cars, higher for trucks and loaded vans. Never the number on the tire sidewall, which is a maximum.
Why does my TPMS light come on every cold morning?
Air contracts as it cools. A tire set to 33 psi in September will read closer to 29 psi on a 35-degree DFW morning, which is enough to trigger the warning. Setting them correctly fixes it.
Can you find a slow leak during the check?
Yes. We soap the valve, bead and tread to locate it. A repairable tread puncture can be plugged and patched on the spot for $35-$45.
Do you check the spare too?
Always. A flat spare discovered on the shoulder at midnight is the most avoidable roadside problem there is.
