Quick answer
Salazar Roadside Assistance replaces leaking tire valve stems at your location anywhere in Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex and Austin. Rubber stems dry out and crack at the base after four to six Texas summers, and TPMS stems corrode where the aluminium meets the wheel. We dismount the tire, fit a new stem, reseat the bead and set pressure to the placard, with the rate quoted before dispatch.
How to tell it is the stem
Wet the base of the stem with soapy water with the cap off, then with the cap on. Bubbles at the base mean the stem body is cracked; bubbles only at the top mean the valve core is leaking, which is a two-minute fix. Either way it is not a tire problem, and it is not worth buying a tire over.
Rubber stems perish from the outside in — heat, ozone and road salt. Bend one sideways and look at the base: a spiderweb of fine cracks means the whole set is due.
- Cracked rubber stems replaced during tire dismount
- Leaking valve cores replaced without breaking the bead
- Corroded aluminium TPMS stems swapped with new service kits
- Sensor tested and relearned after the stem is fitted
- All four stems inspected while we are there
TPMS stems are a different job
Sensor-equipped wheels use an aluminium stem with a rubber grommet and a torque-critical nut. Overtighten it and it snaps; leave it and it seeps. We use fresh service kits rather than reusing a decade-old grommet, then relearn the sensor so the dash light clears.
Do them as a set
If one rubber stem has failed from age, the other three are the same age in the same sun. Replacing all four during one visit costs less than three more service calls over the next year.
How the call works
- 1Call with the vehicle and which tire keeps losing air.
- 2We quote the stem replacement and dispatch to your location.
- 3The tire is broken down from the wheel and the old stem removed.
- 4A new stem is fitted, the bead is reseated, pressure is set and the leak is verified gone.

Answers
Valve Stem Replacement questions, answered
How much does valve stem replacement cost?
The part is inexpensive; you are paying for the dismount and remount. The dispatcher quotes the total on the phone, including the $19 flat dispatch fee, before anyone rolls.
Can a valve stem be replaced without removing the tire?
A valve core, yes. The stem body itself requires breaking the bead, which is exactly why it is worth having someone with the right tools come to you.
How long do rubber valve stems last?
Four to six years in North Texas heat. Most tire shops replace them with every new tire, which is why a set of stems that outlived two sets of tires is usually the culprit behind a mystery leak.
Will replacing a TPMS stem set off the dash light?
Only briefly. We relearn the sensor after the stem is fitted so the warning clears before we leave.
